His mark was a slightly rounded fellow, walking through the dirt trails of Leyawiin port a few yards ahead, completely oblivious to the figure behind him. Kirian grinned, showing sharp, pearly fangs, his red eyes two pinpoints of crimson light in the dark. The hunger was obvious. He picked up his pace. The vampire could smell the blood pounding through the man's veins, his heart beating, he could practically taste it.
He broke into a brisker walk, and a beat later, the man seemed to sense something. Kirian's target paused and looked back just as the vampire melted into the shadows, grinning.
Something felt off; There was someone else here. Kirian gritted his teeth and once the man had started moving again, turned around. Who was there?

Venn felt out of place. Sure, a theif was well accustomed to walking through cities to the unknowing minds of their targets, but something felt off. His bow was beginning to feel a tad warm, as if it felt it too. Odd, he thought, that a bow would be warm. Maybe Daex was right about it being special. Daex. Sure, take a walk, he had said. We're busy, and all that. Well, if a walk constituted a few hours' journey to Leyawin, he supposed it was alright. His feet ground to a halt. Standing in front of him but off to his left was a man that looked rather suspicious. Not criminal suspicious, although he had the air about him, but something else. Against his better judgement, Venn went over to see what it was.

Kirian, the hunger blinding his senses and tinting his vision red, hissed venomously at Venn and bared his fangs, looking like a monster straight from hell rather than a man. His pale skin practically glowed with the glint of the moonlight, his scars pitted and they would have been the dominant features, save the fangs and the blood-colored eyes.
"I'd back up if I were you," he snarled, trying to regain control over his mind. No. Not him, not a bystander. He was thief, Kirian had a way of telling after putting up with a thieving half-elf for six years.

Venn's bow actually began to feel hot against his back. He could have sworn that it had begun to glow a dim yellow. Eww, it's one of those over emotional types, he thought to himself, deciding that it hadn't been such a wise move to walk up to the man. Even so, this didn't stop him from retorting in his own cocky tone, "Oh yeah? And if I don't?"

Kirian advanced a step, his eyes flickering a dangerous shade of fire-crimson. He could pick out the shining glow of the object strapped to the stranger's back, and he grinned. Well, well. The thief had managed to find something worth taking. The vampire took another step, eyes narrowed.
"Boy, you don't understand what your dealing with," he said, his voice becoming a hoarse growl. "I'll tear out your throat, drink you dry, and sell your bones to the forest dwellers for more blood."

Venn's eyes narrowed. A vampire, no less. Great, just my luck. Not intimidated by the threat (he had heard worse before), he stood his ground. "Well, aren't you the angry bloodsucker tonight?" he sneered. His bow was now scalding. Blast that stupid piece of ancient ruin junk...

"I don't want to kill you," he murmured, his hands curled into fists, his sharp nails tearing into his own palms. "So back up, just for a minute, until I can cool off....." Kirian took a deep, shuddering breath, and the color paled. The thief hadn't moved, and it was taking everything Kirian had not to sink his fangs into the boy's throat. "Please." He was speaking through gritted teeth. "Back away."

Venn snorted in contempt. "Very well. It'd be bad if the guards overheard us, anyhow. Me, a theif, and you, a bloodsucker. Just do your dirty business when I'm not looking."

"I'm not going to kill anyone tonight," Kirian said. Then the vampire fell silent, eyes shut, and a deep shudder ran through his body. He raised his head, and when his eyes opened, they were a cool, pale silver. After a beat, he looked back at Venn, one eye on the bow.
"The guards will not bother me," he said confidently. "What's up with the bow? Why does it glow like that?"

"That piece of ruin junk? Found it while I was forthopping. I honestly have no idea. Must be one of those magii enchanted things. I never knew it did that until I got near you, though." Venn was as naive about the bow as ever, even forgetting what Daex had said about it.

The hunger hadn't entirely passed, and as Kirian took a step closer, his throat burned with thirst, and for a beat, his silver eyes hovered on Venn's throat. Then, he tore his gaze away and looked curiously to the weapon. "In a ruin, huh?" His fangs had retracted, but he still look like some sort of underworld freak, his face gaunt and haggard. "Let's try something." Without warning, he dove at Venn with his fangs completely bared and snarled explosively.

((Well bwaah to you.)) Venn quickly sidestepped, the normal reaction for a trained archer, and in the same fluid movement slipped his bow off of his back and nocked an arrow. To his surprise, the arrowhead began to glow a bright gold, illuminating the alley around them. "And just what in Oblivion was that?!" he shot at the vampire.

"It's telling you your life is in danger," Kirian replied smugly, and he confirmed it by letting his hunger die away. The glow dimmed slightly. Kirian allowed himself to look impressed. "You have excellent reflexes," he said finally, blinking owlishly. His eyes were pale silver once again, only the very edges tinted red.
