Venn sighed, but didn't un-nock his bow. "That's what you get from forthopping, stealing, and dodging Dark Brotherhood thugs..."

Kirian eyed the bow carefully, and sidestepped, in case it loosed by accident. "I can imagine. So what poor fellow were you trying to pickpocket?" Kirian asked, eyes narrowed. After a beat, Kirian realized how weird it must have seemed to the boy. A vampire, who really didn't look much older than Venn himself. Both of them were fugitives, even if Venn didn't know Kirian was a murderer.

"No one, actually. Not this time, anyhow. A friend of mine told me to take a hike and that he had business, so I figured I could make a stop in Leyawin."

"Well, you interrupted a good meal," Kirian muttered, casting dark glances at the now deserted street. His mark was long gone, off to whatever things the merchant did at this hour. For a moment, he stared broodingly at Venn, then shrugged. "I'll find a cougar or something in the woods later," he said bitterly, thinking how much better the thief would taste. Maybe he could find Willow, see what she was up to, or go by the city and find something to eat there.
He didn't probe further about the 'friend' or what business it might be, his mind turned to the job he had placed on the half-elf's shoulders. That orb...he'd made it nearly three decades ago, and now he wanted it back. It had been a petty little thing like Venn who'd gotten it, while Kirian was feeding. He'd killed the thief, but not before the stranger had made it to Vincent, who had only so gladly taken possesion of it.
