“well, Ayanna I guess since you caught them, you get to decide what to do.” Ayanna turned to look at the twins while she ate, thinking. Kadin what do you think I should do? I don’t want to hurt them, not at all. I don’t know .. Ayanna you could just do that backflash thing you where talking about Kadin thought back but is really up to you, like Hunter said. Travel in groups? Kadin raised and eyebrow at her Then we can let Trieah Warrner decide. Kadin shrugged, it worked. “Jof, Frit?” Ayanna said getting their attention “You are going to come with us to the Keep. Then we can ask Trieah Warrner what to do.” The twins seemed amazed that they were not going to be killed or turned over to the patrols. “Uhm, Miss. Ayanna?” Frit asked “Just Ayanna, please, Frit” Ayanna said smiling. “Sorry, but how are we going to keep up, I mean, you have horses and we… don’t.” Frit said “Yah, we can’t really run and keep up or anything.” Jof added quickly. “Hum well that will be a problem wont it.” Ayanna said she turned to Hunter “Oh, no. I’m not sharing a saddle with one of those little thieves!” He said “for all I care they can walk!” “My saddle won’t ride to, Ayanna and neither will you’re saddle.” Kadin said Ayanna’s face fell then it brightened. “I know what to do! There are wild horses around here?” Ayanna asked. The twins nodded, confused. Ayanna stood up and walked a little way from them. She whinnied shrilly and then looked toward the forest hill side. The other looked at each other confused. Soon they heard winning and horse’s hooves approaching. Out of the trees burst a heard of wild horses, lead by a large buckskin stallion. “That’s Baywind!!!” Frit and Jof whispered. “Who’s Baywind?” Kadin whispered watching Ayanna talk to the large stallion. “He’s the most elusive horse ever! So many people have tried to catch him and failed!” Jof said “He’s really aggressive to, but he just.. came to her.” Frit added. Kadin stood up and slowly walked towards Ayanna. Baywind nickered at him and stomped a hoof. Ayanna made a noise that seemed to assure the horse “Ayanna, what going on?” Kadin asked. “Well, I’m getting him to let us use some of his heard. We’re going to need strong horses; we still have a long way to go to get to the keep.” Ayanna said “its hard, but he is a smart horse.”

“Are you actually talking to them?” Kadin asked “yes I am if fact…..” She broke off as Baywind nickered at her. She made a noise back that sounded happy and lighthearted. Baywind whinnied loudly and two horses approached. One was a cream color dusted with grey and the other was a blue roan color. “They will come with us, but Baywind insists on coming with us.” She said “he says my horse will be the one to carry the packs and I will ride him.” “He really said that?” Kadin asked “Well it was more in horse words but its hard to understand, so I put it in common terms.” Ayanna said “Try me.” Kadin said as they walked back to them with the horses trailing behind. “We, Greydust and Water go with. You put lumps on little horse, me ride. Or no go.” Ayanna said repeating what Baywind had told her. Kadin smiled and shook his head. He swung up onto the one that was called Water, the blue roan. “Do I have to switch?” Hunter asked. “If you would like to you may.” Ayanna said “but I think it would be best because I don’t think they can ride bare back” She indicated the twins. Hunter grumbled and went to the horse now dubbed Greydust. He mounted and then looked at the twins motioning them to get on the other horses.

Ayanna climbed on a stump and got onto Baywind from there. She almost looked funny, up there on the big stallion. She patted his neck and they moved forward.
Several weeks later they where nearing the end of their journey. Currently they where riding beside a cliff that had a steep drop with a river at the bottom. The twins proved good companions and where soon accepted by everyone, even if it was a little hesitant. It was mid day and they where stopped in the shade of a large maple tree to eat lunch. “Food’s getting low.” Kadin said looking in an almost empty bag. “Well, we’re almost there!” Ayanna said happily, pointing to the nearing mountains. “We don’t have to worry one bit! We might even see some winged snakes soon!” Hunter looked towards the mountains, anticipating what would happen there. Would he be killed or worse or would he be welcomed. Jrenca was not very well thought of with the council he could tell, and he had listened to Jrenca for so long. But Jrenca had been the emperor’s assistant. Hunter was starting to doubt that the more he was with Ayanna. The twins on the other hand where seemingly unconcerned about their predicament. They where busy eating and talking to Ayanna. They where good at making her laugh, which happened frequently. Kadin sighed and then stiffened as he heard a noise. The horses’ heads shot up also looking towards the woods a little way off. Kadin also turned and looked to the woods. What was going on in there? “Ayanna, Hunter, I think that we should leave.” Kadin said warily moving in between Ayanna and the woods. “We’re fine!” Ayanna said “there’s nothing to worry about!” As she said it an arrow came flying out of the trees. Jof knocked Ayanna out of the way and it hit the tree where Ayanna’s head had been. Hunter grabbed the horses’ reins and pulled them behind the tree and the wild ones followed. “Come on!” Kadin said as he pulled Ayanna up and behind the tree. Frit and Jof followed closely. “What in the world is going on?!” Frit said as more arrows thudded into the other side of the tree trunk. “I think we are being attacked.” Hunter growled “kind of obvious.” He looked around the tree and pulled it back quickly. “Ayanna, now would be a good time for you to do something.” “Why?” Ayanna asked “Because there are lots of them, all wearing Jrenca’s symbol.” He said. Kadin climbed the tree and pulled out his pouch of stones. He started slinging them off toward the oncoming enemies. “Uhh, well…. Shield!” Ayanna said. The cranberry light formed a half dome around them. “Ayanna, maybe you could try attacking instead of defending.” Kadin suggested as he stopped slinging stones. He looked down at her from the tree top. “we might get further.” “Well, I don’t want to hurt anyone.” Ayanna said “and I’m scared I will mess up.” Kadin climbed down the tree and placed a hand on her shoulder. “You wont mess up, Ayanna.” He said. “Really you won’t.” Ayanna looked at the ground and blinked. She walked around to the other side of the tree to see what the enemy looked like. They where soldiers wearing hardened leather that was dyed dark red and the front embossed with Jrenca’s personal crest. Most were older, experienced men, but some where younger men. Ayanna could see that most of them where scared and would rather be some place else.
