I've been thinking a bit more, and maybe Excalcigar will be Aeric's last name.
Zodack Excalcigar, Aeric Excalcigar
I like it.
Excalgiar, Excaligar, Excalsigar, Excalibris(making me think of Excalibur)
^---- random spelling brainstorming
I think I've figured out the "thank-you" thingy I'll have in the front pages of the book, if I can ever publish them someday(I'll probably publish my first book when I'm forty).
And after the title page that appears at the front of each book, I want to have a quote that individually relates to the story. Or... not necessarily a quote, to be honest. I want it to be the lyrics from a choral piece.
I want to use Omnia Sol, Hard Times, The Awakening, When David Heard, and hopefully The Promised Land.
I'll have to decide which ones go best where. Omnia Sol I really see happening in the last book of the 1st Chronicle. Hard Times I see happening in book 7. The Promised Land would appear in Book 5, and When David Heard appears in Book 3.
Oh, and I want to use Earth Song too. That would work for Book 11, the very, VERY last book in the entire series.
I've started to try and make quotes that characters say, each summing up a specific motif I want for every individual book.
I love motif.
"Prove to me, Dameus, that at least one of the human race is worth enough to stand still in the hurricanes of war. I understand the principles of an individual by observing his or her reactions to life-risking struggle. Your humanity will be provoked when you lift your sword to fight, and I will be watching not the sword--but you. In essence, Dameus, I judge by courage and duty; not by good swings, for my father taught me that a warrior is not made of his armor, his helmet, his shield or weapon, but a true warrior is made of his heart." Aeric, book 5
"There is an almighty insect in this world, Aeric. It crawls and nests and reproduces like mad, always invading, always seeking to overpower, always spawning, always killing--not for survival, but for more selfish purposes. This species of insect is the most greedy, the most disgusting, and they inhabit everywhere but the empire. You and your armies are the insects, Aeric; This world once belonged to a great and kind ruler, one I strive to resemble, and he only ever ruled kindly. He was dedicated to remove the infestation of imperfection and sin, but was cruelly murdered before his dream was fulfilled. To finish what he began, it is my duty to squish the life out of every single bug in this world, and I will make each blow quick and painful. This is my dynasty, Aeric. All who bear the mark of my rule will be spared and cleansed, all others will be erased from existence. This dynasty is mine, and it will always be remembered as the dynasty that saved this world from destruction." Skul'Kera, book 7
