"Ishmael, we're not going to catch Briggs wandering around this forest all day," Raynor called to his partner.
Ishmael turned to see Raynor already settling himself with his back to a tree. "What makes you say that?"
"Firstly, because this forest is huge; secondly, because we're making too much noise. Briggs calls his men to arms if he hears so much as a squirrel sneezing; what makes you think he won't hear your gallumphing?"
The Dragerock smiled. "As if he wouldn't hear your huffing and puffing first," but he settled himself against a tree near Raynor.
"You know I'm not in bad shape, and I certainly haven't been huffing and puffing."
"Then I suppose you have a plan?"
Raynor was silent for a minute, mulling over his options. "I have several, and I have one we could try. How would you feel about an ambush?"
Ishmael leaned forward so as to listen better. "Keep going."
"Well, I can serve as a distraction by...laying down in the open. He'll see me and try to attack me, and you can get him."
"Won't he have men with him?"
"No, I read the report from the guild about him. He doesn't travel with guards, but he will have men in shouting distance. You'll need to work fast."
"Easy. So...where should I hide?" Ishmael looked around for a hiding spot.
"Quietly," Raynor advised, getting up and taking a blanket from the pack over Ishmael's shoulder. "Just stand behind the tree."
"And what if someone comes by, and it isn't Briggs?"
"Improvise," Raynor said shortly, lying down on the blanket and pretending to be asleep.
Ishmael slipped behing the tree as quietly as he could.
