Jess's milk-white hands pressed against the alley wall as she tried to regain her balance. Once her shaking legs steadied, she guide a lock of black hair back behind her ear and continued on. She had come to Doesa with hopes that she would encounter wealthy merchants. However, everytime she started to perform for the sea-farers, the highest reward she ever got from them was a, "Oh, isn't that pretty? You're such a tiny thing, though! Oh, well! Gotta run!" It seemed she would never get any food at this rate.
Nevertheless, she would rather starve then return to her previous life. Renewed by her disgust at marrying that THING her parents had chosen for her, she pressed on, searching for her next client.

ooc- Mkay. Next post to Gwydion.
bic- Sebastian listened half-heartedly to the words his friend were speaking, barely paying attention. Movement in a nearby alley caught his attention. It was late, no telling what sort of characters were going to be traveling around.
The sorcerer murmured a barely audible word under his breath, one long-fingered hand held out infront of him with the palm up. A bright orange flame appeared in his hand, illuminating everything within several yards. The pitted shadows shrank back, revealing a small, pale girl in entertainer's garb leaning against the alley wall, resting.
After a beat, she moved on, seeming not to have noticed him. He glanced back at his companion, a druidok.
"What do you think?" he murmured. A traveler's caravan was always looking for new members to help pay for supplies. The one Sebastian had joined several seasons ago was beginning to break up. He didn't want that.

Jess spotted a group of well-dressed people strolling down a nearby road. She began to follow them, wetting her lips. Would it be too straight-forward to target them and start singing? No. She didn't care anymore. All she wanted was to earn a bite to eat. She would do that in only one way: to earn it with her voice.
She wanted to prove to her mother-and to herself, though she was reluctant to admit it-that making a living off of singing was possible for her. It was for this reason that she never begged for or accepted anything free. However, such a lifestyle took a toll on her health, as she was well aware.
The world before her swirled and clouded over like muddy water. She bid the water away and pressed onwards, eager to perform. Which song should she sing? The Locust Mourning Song? Maidens of the Harvest? Or perhaps a song about some long-deceased hero? The feeling returned, bringing with it spots of red and green and many other colors. Too woozy to take alarm, Jess smiled stupidly at their resplendant dance and fell to the ground.

((thanks for waiting))
Cambion Teyre watched the girl fall. He had no symapathy for her, or any other human for that matter. But, he didn't want the caravan to break up either. It was his source of hiding. No bounty hunters or mercenaries could trace him there, and no one would ever guess that he was the leader of a band of druidok rebels.
"Go to her if you wish. It matters not to me." Cambion always unconsciously tried to give the impression that nothing could hurt him. He had been wounded many times in his group's raids, sometimes near-fatal, but he had always recovered and lived to raid again. Right now he was trying to gain support for their cause. He knew their force was nowhere near large enough for a direct attack on the Fabrith Empire itself.
He turned to Sebastian. Sebastian was the only human he trusted. Cambion had met him when he first joined the convoy. It didn't take Sebastian long to figure out what he was. He was eventually convinced that he would never tell what he was though. Cambion had come to even respect Sebastian. He looked at his friend now. He had often wondered if Sebastian would join them in their rebel band.

ooc- PLOT. *pokes* I got to mail Linkz. I'll post when I get home. EDIT*** Haha. Post 555. Anyway.
bic- Sebastian stared at his friend for a moment. Cambion had forged a connection with the reclusive sorcerer shortly after the member of the Tora family had joined, and now they could practically read each other's mind. He nodded, once, and moved to the girl.
Swiftly, he dropped into a crouch and held her arm, steadying her, his red eyes narrowed in concern.
"Are you alright?" Sebastian asked. She'd scraped her knee on the rock and Sebastian stuck one hand into the pocket of his robe, digging out a vial of thick red.
Cambion was right behind him, watching. Sebastian could feel the druidok rebel's eyes on his back. Only Cambion knew Sebastian's abilities in Magii, in potion-making. Sebastian had made himself appear as a simple magician, nothing special.
The last thing he needed was the imperial guard on his back. Sorcerers were always taken into suspicion. Then again, so were Druidoks. Maybe that was why they were such good friends. Common enemies.
A low chuckle ran through his mind, but he choked it down and returned his attention to the girl.

"How is she?" Cambion asked, more out of making conversation than concern. If this girl died, there were many other candidates for the job. He did not care about her fate.

"You...." Jess slowly tilted her head so that her eyes would meet the stranger's, "Thank you...would you like to hear a song?"

Well. She certainly was obsessed with her work. Nothing got in the way of it, even her cracked kneecap. Well. Sebastian was pretty sure she'd cracked it. He pulled the cap out of the vial with his teeth and spat it into his palm, having released the girl's arm.
"You are one dedicated entertainer," Sebastian said, trying not to show his admiration. Amused, he looked up at his friend.
"Yes, she's fine. Nothing fatal," the sorcerer added, eyes flickering. He smeared some of the red goop in his palm, dashed white powder from his pocket and stirred it in his hand. Sebastian looked at her, trying not to laugh. She looked so hopeful. She really just wanted to sing.
"You can sing in a bit, I'm sure you have a wonderful voice, but I need to treat this," Sebastian said, pointing at her bleeding knee. "What do you say?"

Cambion didn't crack a smile. It was all foolishness to him. "Do whatever you want to do," he said. He studied the girl. By the look of her, she hadn't eaten in at least several days. She was very scrawny, but traveling with the caravan, she would get stronger. Cambion's face showed relative approval.

"Okay...how much?"

ooc- Sorry, I know I died, just things have been complicated. Here I am. Short, I know.
bic- "I don't know yet," Sebastian replied steadily. He too had noticed her to-thin form. Having smeared the red paste of the cut, he rinsed his hands off with a water flask, then tucked both the flask and the vial of red liquid into the pockets of his thick cloak. Cambion hadn't objected. Yet.
"Let's say..." Sebastian managed a smile. "That you come back with us. Dinner should be done by the time we get there, and then maybe you can sing or something," he suggested mildly, one eye on Cambion. Sebastian never knew what his friend was thinking.

"Can I...can I trust you?" she uttered, despite her strong longing to go with them, "Others have tried to take me before."
