The night air was still. Vernus was crouching, his hands lied on his knees. He considered the rocky crags of the mountain pass carefully, and nothing seemed out of order. He stood and trudged through the deep snow. It was a winter night in the Dragon's Jaw mountains, and the conditions were rugged enough to kill your average traveler. He pulled his scarf tighter around his face, his own breath was likely the sole source of warmth for miles. The path began to widen in front of him.

A figure, nearly invisible to even a trained eye, stepped out onto the path. "Excuse me." The figure spoke, "We are in need of your services. Please follow me."
((I'm assuming Vernus follows.))
The figure, a male in a black cloak, facial features hidden by the shadow of a hood, took a seat on the opposite side of the table. They were in a small cave, one that only extended twenty feet back into the mountain. The only source of like were five lanterns hung about the room. In the middle of the rocky shelter was a table with three candles on it, and two chairs, one quite larger than the other, obviously for Vernus.
The man reached down and pulled two items out of his cloak. One was a puch full of coins, the other a folded piece of white parchment. These items were silently placed in front of Vernus.

Vernus was impressed. It would take a skillful person indeed to have gotten this far in this weather. He lifted the pouch of coins and weighed it in his hand, considering. After a short time he nodded in approval. "Fine" Vernus growled, pocketing the coins. Now his attention turned to the parchment. He lifted it with all the delicacy a person of his size could muster, and began to unfold it slowly.

"Should you accept," The man spoke,"You will travel to the specified town"
"I cannot tell you anything else," "But it will be profitable."

Vernus considered the parchment. Issil was a long way to travel on the information he had, but profitability was always good. He stood abruptly from his chair, his head nearly touching the cave ceiling. "Fine" he said "I accept." He turned silently and stepped towards the cave exit. "Should this be a trap" he rumbled gruffly from the exit of the cave "you will likely not see your associates again." He left without another word.

The man nodded to himself. He had expected this is how things would happen. He silently set out to trail Vernus.
