The city had moved again. It was always on the move, floating on the clouds above the main continent. After the disappearnance of princess Elaisia, a time of turmoil had arisen and the cointinent had risen to avoid the quarells of the one below. She was the last of the royalty, and had mysteriously vanished after Exavior had come. It had been a secret meeting, the only human to recieve cloudstep. That had been during the war of the Necromancer. Now, without a ruler, the city had no choice but to anchor itself over the mountains. The head mages were edgy about such an action, for the city was vunarable while this low. Things were about to change however. They were about to change very quickly.

"Are you ready for this again? Your role? You know that you must do what we've layed out for you." her overseer whispered in her ear.
"Yes, Master Sollis, I know the contract. I don't think I can fully imagine the Observants part in this, but I'm gracious for this benefit for my people."
"That's good," Sollis commented, ever wrapped in his radiant cloak, his face always invisible, "because this will bring a prosperous age to the Aerons. But, whatever you do, you must not let the city back down until the War of Shadows has passed. The Observants know and they protect. No matter what, the cirty must stay away. No matter what pleas you get or from what people, you must keep it that way. Are we clear, Queen Elaisia?"
Elaisia regarded this man with scrutiny. He had brought her back here, to her people, but for his means. Or the means of the world, she knew not. She would play his charade. It was what Dameus would want. But he wasn't here, now, to protect her. It was just her, this man, and his wishes.
His terms were just, however. Not endanger her city, keep her people safe. Completely fair.
And she would go through with them, Sollis knew. If she didn't, the Observants would come for her, correct her mistake, and replace her with one of their own.
Then, perhaps, she would have wished she had listened.
And of course, it was for the best of the world. Or the best as the Observants saw fit. The Saw, and they Knew.
Now if only the Immortals didn't interrupt their plans...
