how do you deal with the possiblity of having surgery and never playing your instument again?

A:) Well, it would depend on the kind of support and care you'll recieve from your family, if you do have the surgery. Also, depending on what kind of instrument you play, it plays a minor role.
I can't put myself in a similar situation, seeing as I don't play any musical instrument. But the only thing I can say is to be positive, take it in stride, and never give up on hope that you'll be able to play your instrument AFTER the surgery.
