"well, if i had wanted to kill some one for so long, like that guy said, why do it fast?" Kearen said ((educated guess?))

((Lol....Kearen:Private Eye.)) "Did you see what he did to Lan?" Dire's voice was harsh, "That dagger was more like a short sword, and he shoved it into Lan's stomach." ((forgive me, I am experiencing minor writer's block))

Lan groaned and opened his eyes. Darkness. There was nothing in front of his face, only complete black. Around him he could hear the noises of horses and marching feet. After these discoveries came the pain, a terrible, mind numbing pain in his stomach. He reached down with his hands and felt where it hurt the most. His fingers ran over stitches, and came away sticky with blood. He heard voices outside talking. He slowed his breathing and listened. "They say he bested The Commander in a fight, then fought off hundreds of guards by himself." Another voice said," No, he had help from The Resistance." "Dire Sothe?" The first voice said. "Yeah, that's the one. They say he's in this world too." "This whole thing is scaring me, I just want to go home." The voices faded, then light poured into Lan's eyes. As soon as he could see, he saw that he had been in a wooden coffin, confined to the small, hot space. The top portion had been lifted by a soldier. The coffin was turned on its side and Lan spilled out onto the road. He coughed and clutched his side. A boot connected with his wound, then everything went black.

Dire stood up, then strode off into the forest in the direction they had come in. He would find out the truth. If Lan was alive, He would pull him out."

He looked back at her, and his look softened slightly. "I suppose you're right..." He adjusted the katana that was strapped to his belt. He had taken it off of a dead soldier's body. They had reached the clearing where Lan had been stabbed. the vegetation was trampled where soldiers had marched over it, and there was a pool of dried blood on the ground in the center of the clearing. Dire walked to the center, and looked around. He saw what he was looking for. A clearing through the brush was trampled off to the south east. He looked to Kearen. "This way."

Suddenly Dire threw himself towards Kearen, pushing her to the side of the cleared path. He grunted and landed on top of her, then rolled off. He grimaced and looked to his shoulder. An arrow was sticking in his leather armor. It hadn't gone through, but it had hit with enough force to leave a nasty bruise. He pulled it out and tossed it aside. "I figured they would have left a few men to keep us away."

"let me take care of this." Kearen said, her eyes hard and pleading "please, Dire?"

Dire hesitated, then nodded. "Be careful." He winced. The arrow had broken a bone in his upper arm.

Kearen nodded and sneaked around the path. Soon there was a short suddly ended yell. After a short while she returned her hands bloodied each with two cuts in it. "we are clear, Dire."

"What happened to your hands?" questioned Dire. Thankfully the arrow had hit his left arm. He was much better with his right. Although he could fight with either superbly. He drew his katana. His left arm hung limp at his side. He forced himself up, he had to help protect Kearen.
