Suddenly blackjack reared up and whinnied. Dozens of arrows shot out of the woods. They were thrown clear of the horse and back into the woods on the other side of the trail. As soon as they hit the ground, Lan had drawn his bow, strung it, found a target in the woods,(a man poked his head out to see if he had hit his mark.) The last thing he saw was Lan's arrow right before it burried itself in his right eye. Blackjack lay on the ground, arrows sticking out of him. Lan shoved Kearen behind a large rock, protecting her from the arrows. He dove as well.

Lan motioned for her to stay behind the rock. "Wait here." He waited about three second then dove out from behind the rock, shooting three arrows in rapid succesion. Two found their mark and the other flew off into the trees, clipping a man's ear. He ran low to the ground, staying behind cover. He reached into his boot and pulled out a throwing knife. He began climbing a tree, the throwing knife gripped between his teeth. He reached top, threw the knife down into the brush below him. A storm of arrows struck at the base of the tree, where the knife had been dropped. This allowed him to see his enemy as they poked out of the brush to aim and shoot. He had killed seven before they could locate him. He dropped quickly from the tree. Motioning for Kearen to run away, he drew his bow and aimed, dropping another soldier.

Kearen made a face at him and dissapered from view. All of a sudden there where yells from further back. Kearen was grinning from ear to ear, soldiers falling underneath her staff-blades like chafft in the wind.

Kearen had felled ten soldiers..not a bad feat of swordsmanship. But enough was enough. Chains shot out of the darkeness and wrapped around Kearen. One bound her hands together, the other her feat. Soldiers surrounded her with long lances. A very large man stepped out of the darkness, holding the chains. "Good evening, miss..what brings you to our woods?" he said with an evil grin. "shackle, bind, and lock her up! If she escapes, I'll slaughter you all!" Kearen was realieved of all wepons, hidden and not, then was roughly shackled, both her hand and feet in steel cuffs, after that she was wrapped in strong rope, then tied to a tree. There would be no escaping this time.
Lan turned around and cursed. What was she thinking?! There were at least seventy archers, who did she think she was, one of the Nine?! He turned and notched an arrow. Time to get her out..

The man stepped up to her and slapped her across the face. hard "Someone put a muzzle on that piece of filth!" A soldier stepped up and attempted to put cloth over her mouth the quiet her. He withrew his bloodied hand with a scream after she bit him. That earned her another slap. They got the cloth around her mouth. "You five." said the man to a group on lancemen. "Take two archers and scout the woods....he can't be that far off...no doubt he'll come back for his girlfriend. That earned him a glare from Kearen.
The man shrugged and walked off, setting twenty men in a paremeter around her.

((Well that's odd.)) The soldier stepped forward and hit her behind the ear with the butt of his sword, putting her in a daze. They fastened a strong cord over her mouth. That ought to hold her.

((she's being distrating)) Kearen giggled through the rope, and started making faces. Her teeth worked at the rope, but it just looked like part of the faces. She had it fraying, tasted weird. She tugged at the rope wich bound her to the tree. "mrfhh ar mrr!" She shouted at the gaurds though the rope.

((I see...)) An alarm sounded through the woods, piercing the silence. The scouting party had been found, each with one of Lan's arrows sticking out of them. Lan had stolen their arrows, as he was running low on his own. Meanwhile Kearen's captors were looking around uneasily..how could one man take down seven so easily? As kearen struggled against the bonds she felt a small tap. Lan was in the tree above her, camouflaged by the leaves, hidden almost completely by his mottled gray green cloak. He silently drew his bow and shot it into the woods a hundred paces out from the enclosure, making it clack against a rock. The men jerked their attention to the woods and nervously gripped their wepons. Three brave ones stepped out into the woods, glancing around them. As soon as they found the arrow he had shot, Lan released three quick shots, silencing two of them and letting the last one scream so as to draw the attention of the other men. This time all of the men except for two staying behind to guard Kearen went. The fifteen men ran off into the woods. Lan knew there wasnt much time. He dropped silently to the ground like a shadow. He flicked his wrists and two throwing knived burrowed themselved in the back of the two guard's necks. He put a finger to kearen's lips, then withdrew a curved blade from a strap on his leg. He quickly slashed through the ropes, then picked the locks on Kearen's chackles quickly, then quickly took them off of her hands and feet. He leaned in close, "This way," he breathed, so quietly that Kearen had to strain to hear what he said. He set off stealthily into the shadows.
