Lan opened his eyes slowly and...wait this wasn't his master bedroom in his castle this was....
and then it hit him, of course he wasn't in his castle, he was on the run from an army with little time to warn the great hall before many worlds were destroyed!
Lan sighed and rose up.
Tain'yel, (Ta' is what he called her for short) blinked and looked up at him, and closed her eyes again. It had been a day of hiding in the cave from the army that was scouring the mountains.
He had risked a peek out of the roof of the cave, Standing on Ta's back to be able to see out. And he nearly got spotted by a guard that was at least ten feet away resting on a rock.
He had taken some time to look around the cave, knowing he would have to come out sometime.
He didn't have a razor to shave so he had rough stubble growing on his chin.
Once he had overheard two guards near another opening in the cave roof talking about the invasion.
It was two months away. That made Lan feel a lot better about rushing to get to the hall.
Once he warned the hall he had to get back to his own world, it had been months since he had seen someone he could talk to freely.
After at least two days of eating herb provisions he had on the packs slung over Ta', he decided it was time to leave.
He hopped on Ta' and allowed her to stretch out her wings before they lifted up into the air and through the hole in the roof.
His plan was to stay low so no one from a distance would notice.
Not many guards were on the hill today, and all went well.
Lan had been thinking and had come to a conclusion. This world had a portal that let straight into the great hall.
That would explain why he had been hit while in the great hall and woken up in a whole different world.
And another thought had come to him, the portal was probably near the castle, or even possibly in it.
after about thirty minutes of flying, Lan had figured out where the portal was.
It was obvious where it was because there were about twenty men guarding the entrance to where it was located.
It was a small building with a reinforced door in the front. It wasn't a sure thing but he was sure it was there.
He had planned his strategy, and was ready to use it.
He let Ta' go when she was ready, and he maneuvered her as is she were an extension of his body.
He held his pike in front of him and out to an angle.
There were fifteen guards in front and five archers on top of the building.
He saw them rushing toward them and right as the first archer looked up Lan's pike had already killed him.
Then chaos erupted around him as the archers fumbled to notch an arrow and take aim. He spun his pike around and let the blunt end clang off another archers helmet, knocking him unconscious.
an archer managed to send an arrow in his direction but it was just short and Lan send him to the ground. He didn't notice a guard behind him but Ta' did. She whipped her tail behind her and caught the guard in the stomach, sending him flying off the building. Lan jumped off Ta' and spun his pike around, knocking two guards unconscious and knocking the sword out of one's hands.
He spun around right as a guard has pulled a dagger and jumped at him. Lan landed a punch on the guards stomach with his shining hand. The guard flew back ten feet and fell on another guard, his dagger accidentally killing him.
Ten guards remained, and surged toward Lan, swords raised,
and they got scorched by Ta's flame.
One last guard remained, and turned around to run and get backup.
Before he could reach the castle, Lan's pike soared through the air and thudded into his back. Lan picked up another spear lying on the ground and fastened it to his back, he led Ta' into the building.
And there it was, the portal. Lan could see the great hall.
He walked into he portal and didn't even look back. Ta' came uneasily behind him.
Lan knew he had made it in time.
