Link collapsed on rotten earth that had a stench more powerful than he had ever smelled before. Rotten flesh and earth grown deathly wasted fogged across six bulky hills. Holding his nose for it smelled of thick decay, Link stood on a single mound in the middle of five surrounding him.
"Hello?... Hello!"
Nothing called back to him, only noises that resonated through the air like clicks and calls, many that he had never heard before.
Stepping forward he leapt back with a quick step and utter disgust staining his face. He was surrounded by bubbling marshy bog. Thick vines spread across the murky water occasionally showed spiky contorted wormlike things plopping in and out through the vast swamp.
Once again he couldn't help but call. When he heard the words "Infinite Realm" he never imagined some place such as this. He thought it would only be the world's alternate side filled with just as much as it had before.
"Hello!! Someone, is anyone there?"
A raspy high pitched voice giggled back at him, a silhouette forming in the background atop one of the misty mounds.
"Shh! They are sleeping! Heeha...Hahaha..."
Link raised his hand and waved violentely.
"They...They? Please, can you tell me if there's anyone else nearby?"
"They don't like visitors...You should leave...Heehaa..."
"Please, can you tell me where some town is? I don't-"
Link's left food sank a little in the ground, mud globbing around it like sticky honey.
"like...this place..."
The voice grew nearer and a hunched man with pale skin and big bug-like eyes leapt across the vines to the mound Link stood next to.
"Shh! They're sleeping!"
Link sighed and heaved his left foot out of the ground, stepping onto thick ground and walking next to the man. Now that he was closer he could make him out much, much better.
The man's teeth--or at least what was left-- were orangish green and chipped horribly. Each poked in a different angle that Link couldn't imagine a man to eat with. He was cloaked in a dark black garb that hooded him and all the rest of his bony body--of which Link could see the impressions from the tearing cloth.
The man's smaller eye was yellow, the retinae red and a pink pupil popping out towards him. His other eye which was massively larger and poking out from its socket was green. It bore no retinae, only a small black dot.
The man was holding a long poky stick with a poking piece of metal on the end. As the man raised it and began hitting the earth's top, Link could see his hands poke out from under the garb. They were entirely white with the bones and red veins sticking out like the sun to the blue sky.
"Want to know a secret? Heehaah!"
Laughed the man to Link, his small eye blinking. Link's mouth slightly dropped at the sight of this man, how it was a horrible sight to see of someone so...
"Um...Sure?"
"They're all dead! Aaah!"
Link jumped back and grabbed the handle of his sword like a bolt of lightning. Pulling it out cleanly and readying it in a flash, his eyes darted around the area.
...
Nothing...
The man continued laughing and attacking the ground with his stick and metal, as if zoning in between Link and whatever he was doing in his own mind.
"What is it?!"
Link asked with a quick breath. The man did not answer and began to hum while he dug and dug through the ground.
"Sir?"
"Dig dig dig! Shh! They're sleeping..."
The man turned around and walked to the other side, continuing to dig.
Link sighed and walked up to the man, grabbing his shoulder and turning him to-...
The man was gone...
Link stepped back, his eyes wide. Was that man possibly a ghost? A demon, perhaps? Bound to this area and never to be freed?
"Dig..."
Link muttered to himself. Six mounds...There must be something buried below them... They were sleeping? They were dead?... That must have been what the ghost was trying to explain...
Link looked down upon the very top of the large hill within the middle. Sticking his hand out with a quick breath, he muttered a spell.
The ground under him opened up like a pool of water draining, and he was sucked inside.
Link stood in a room of only black. Darkness shrouded everything. No texture shown, no contrast.
Only black.
Snapping his fingers he muttered a small fire spell as a spark ignited from his fingertips.
Holding it up above him he-
The fire blew out.
...What? How...
That was it! Drawing out the Sol Rapier, he pointed the blade straight above him and in a flash of blinding light the room was illuminated.
Ah, only for a few seconds as the rapier's light died down and only bright light surrounded the slim blade.
Walking forward he stuck out his hand--a small hint of fear arising. Where was he? Without light, it felt like he was hopeless...Almost, that is.
His hand touched something...Cold stone... He grasped one of the pieces he felt and tried pulling it out. It was firmly stuck inside of something. Something must have been built here...Probably a grave, from what the ghost had told him.
Rethinking over the ghost he gave a small shudder. This was definately not what he expected for some "Infinite Realm"...
Well, whatever was in the grave, Link did not want to disturb it.
Sheathing his rapier he thought of a spell withdraw him from the crypt he believed to lay within. Muttering the words, he closed his eyes an-
He still lay within blackness...
In front of him stood a fog. There was NO fog before... His eyes grew wide and he prayed nothing too unexpected would need to be expected this moment as from the fog ahumanoid form came into view.
It was pointy and drifted through the room, not turning towards Link directly yet. In what appeared to be a hand there was a rough form of a trident... It moved with the fog as if a part of it. As the fog turned around again it faced Link directly and a hand raised to point towards him. Screeching was released as eyes appeared from under the eyeholes of a helmet.
Link was enlocked within a battle, there was no doubt...
((Now me and you get to battle, me fighting as Zodack's ghost!!
Muhahahahahaha! And you have to face six people basically to get out of this bog--basically you're putting them to rest.
