Along the way to the girl's house, Nenuphar learned that her name was Rose Akakios, and that she was a single child with a jeweler and blacksmith for parents. Nenuphar humored her and told her a story about himself that he made up on the spot. (Designed to make her even more sympathetic towards him, of course.)
He lived on a beautiful island with a loving family, when one day pirates came. Everyone in their tiny village was either, killed, robbed, or dragged away for the pirates to do whatever they pleased with them. His mother was dragged off by an especially fearsome pirate with a sea serpent tattoo on his right arm.
Luckily, Nenuphar had had plenty of practice telling such stories to other young people like her. Whether the charm was worked on boys or girls, the youths always seemed to be pining so much for a romantic flame that they'd believe anything from a beautiful stranger.
Needless to say, Rose Akakios was putty in his hands by the time they walked through her front door.

Later that night, Nenuphar was eating dinner with the Akakios. He pretended to be interested, smiling and nodding at whomever was speaking, while stealing short glances at Rose. Behind the act, he was thinking solemnly. Where exactly was he planning on going after this? He knew that he would have to keep on wandering aimlessly around the world for eternity. It was the fate of a servant spirit whose master died. But....for eternity? An eternity of nothing? It was bleak, but it was his fate.
Suddenly, he heard "Arrucard".
Nenuphar snapped out of his reverie and said, "Huh?"
"Alucar," the blacksmith repeated, "The man who used to be my apprentice."
"Oh..." Nenuphar said softly.
"Is something wrong?" the jeweler said, leaning forward with concern in her eyes, "You're shaking."
"It's nothing....I...."
With that, he excused himself and ran out into the night.
Arrucard! Was that really why he was wandering around like this? He was trying to escape his guilt, wasn't he? He collapsed and let his tears flow freely to the cool earth. It was his fault. He couldn't protect him!
But, was it really? He paused and sat up. If it weren't for the demon, the violent soul, Arrucard would not have been in danger in the first place. And now the demon was running amok in Arrucard's body. How could he have left it like that?! The demon was the one who killed Arrucard!!!
He whipped around after feeling something brush against his shoulder. It was Rose, looking terrified, but putting on a brave face. She was trying to be some kind-hearted heroine, saving this handsome stranger from his dark, mysterious past. What folly.
Frustrated and with a new goal, he shoved her away, causing her to slam painfully into the side of her house. And with that, he transformed into a silver-colored stallion and galloped off into the darkness.
That demon! That demon was going to die!!
